Friends star Mike Hagerty dies aged 67: Actor played super Mr Treeger in building

A guest star of the hit TV series Friends has died.

MikeHagerty has died at the age of 67, his former co-star Bridget Everett of the HBO show Somebody Somewhere shared on social media on Friday, but she did not reveal the cause of death.

The character actor was best known for his recurring role as Mr. Treeger on Friends, which aired from 1994 to 2004. He was on five episodes of the show.

The Illinois native played the superintendent of Monica Gellar and Rachel Green’s apartment building in New York City. In one episode, he wanted to evict the roommates.

He first appeared in the sitcom’s second season and last appeared in the eighth season.

He was seen in scenes with Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry.

The comedian has had a very full career as a character actor on TV shows.

Somebody Somewhere co-star Bridget Everett shared the sad news on social media.

“With great sadness the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles,” she wrote on Instagram.

“A beloved character actor, his love for his hometown of Chicago and his family have been the cornerstones of his life.

‘Mike, a devoted husband, is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty [and] his wife Kathleen ORourke and their daughter Meg,” she then noted.

‘He will be greatly missed.’

She added: “I loved Mike from the moment I met him.” He was so special. Warm, funny, never met a stranger.

“We are devastated that he passed away. Mike was adored by the entire cast and crew of Somebody Somewhere. Our thoughts are with his wife and family.

Sarah Jessica Parker – who is best known for playing Carrie Bradshaw on Sex And The City – took to social media to pay tribute to Hagerty.

The 57-year-old actress admitted she’s a fan of her work. She wrote on Instagram: ‘Heartbreaking. I admired him for years. X.’

Mike made his Hollywood debut with the 1973 show The Timber Tramps which led to guest starring roles in Cheers and Crime Story (both 1986).

He had a memorable role as Kurt Russell’s lovable blue-collar best friend in the 1987 comedy Goldie Hawn Overboard.

But he returned to television to appear in Married… with Children in 1987, Family Ties in 1988 and Murphy Brown in 1989.

Next came a role as Leo Blount on Home Court in the mid-90s, and then he landed Friends in 1995. He would be seen on at least five episodes of the hit show.

In 2006 he worked on Lucky Louie as Mike, then he showed up as Fat Jack Bray on Mob City in 2013.

He appeared in three episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and was last seen in Somebody Somewhere this year, playing Ed Miller.
