Visually Impaired Actor Draws Governments’ Attention to the Plight of the Physically Disabled | The Guardian Nigeria News

A visually impaired actor, Alegbeleye Sanmi, lamented the neglect of governments towards disabled and handicapped people in society.

Sanmi, who sounded the alarm during his visit to Rutam House, headquarters of The GuardianNewspapers, in Lagos, noted that people with physical disabilities have been completely ignored, despite their current situation which requires special attention.

Speaking against the backdrop of the economic downturn, he explained that to combat the jobless syndrome plaguing the country, he advised his colleagues who are in the same situation to rather than beg on the streets, get into the film industry.

He added that earlier this year they were able to produce a film on loan called The Way Out.

According to him, the film tells us about the struggles that people go through and who is to blame. Is it the government, the youth or the citizens? But no one is ready to take that on. In the end, we all look to God for our way out, no matter who is responsible for the problems.

He implored Nigerians to support their group financially; saying that the sum of 1.9 million naira out of the 2.4 million naira he spent on the film was a loan he got from LAPO, a financial institution, with an interest rate of 500 000 naira.

Payment will be due in October and I have yet to pay my co-workers who were in the film. When I clear the debt, I will pay them their money, they are visually impaired so they understand better, he added.
