James has publicly addressed the issue for the first time since the allegations emerged on a SiriusXM podcast last December, admitting he slept with students at his drama school and ‘cheated on everyone’ he dated. during a 20-year battle with “sex addiction”.

Speaking on the Jess Cagle Podcast, James confessed that he ‘slept with students, and it was fake’.

He also admitted that he could “never be faithful to anyone” until he met Isabel.

The 127 Hours star has blamed his infidelities and inappropriate behavior on a sex addiction he has suffered from since he quit drinking as a teenager.

“It’s such a powerful drug,” he explained. “I was addicted for 20 more years. The insidious part of it is that I stayed sober from alcohol all that time.

“And I was going to meetings all the time. I even tried to sponsor other people. So in my head, it was like, ‘Oh, I’m sober. I live a spiritual life.’ Where on the side, I’m acting all these other ways now, and I couldn’t see it.

James said he had been recovering from sex addiction since 2016 and had “done a lot of work” after the allegations against him “and changed who I was”.

“I didn’t want to hurt people,” he said.

James also revealed that even though he slept with students from his acting school, he thought it was “cool” because it was “consensual” and they were all adults.

‘I [was] completely blind to power dynamics or something, but also completely blind to people’s feelings. I didn’t want to hurt people,” he said.

“I admit that I slept with students,” he said. “During my teaching, I slept with students. And it was wrong.

“But, like I said, that’s not why I started school. And it was not me who selected the people to be in the class. So it wasn’t a master plan on my part, but yeah, there were some instances where, you know what, I was in a consensual relationship with a student and I shouldn’t have been.

‘I guess at the time my thing was, if it’s consensual, OK. Of course I knew, I talked to other people, other teachers, yeah, that’s probably not a cool thing. [But] at the time, I was not as lucid as I said. So I guess it comes down to my criteria: if it’s consensual, it’s cool. We are all adults,” he said.

During the chat, James explained that he had a hard time staying true to anyone and that he had cheated on all of his former girlfriends.

He said, “I had girlfriends. I could never be faithful to anyone. I fooled everyone before Isabel.

James cited his 20-year battle with sex addiction as the main reason for his rampant adultery, an issue he has successfully battled for five years.

“I was in convalescence before, for drug addiction. And there were some issues that I had to deal with that were also related to addiction.

“And so I really used my recovery history to start looking at that and changing who I was,” he explained.
