ASTRO Cha Eun-woo is going far, and very soon, he could be making his Hollywood debut!
On July 1, StarNews reported that according to industry insiders, Cha Eun-woo was in talks to star in the new Hollywood film. K-pop: Lost in America, alongside Hollywood stars Rebel Wilson and Charles Melton.
It is also said that he had even cleared part of his schedule for the second half of 2022 in order to prepare for the shooting. Fantagio, Cha Eun-woos’ record label, has confirmed that the singer-actor has received a casting offer and is following it positively.
The film will be produced by Korean company CJ ENM Vice Chairman Lee Mi-kyung. The film’s screenplay is written by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, with a current draft by Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah.
The film is directed by Yoon Je-kyun, known for directing 1st Street, Haeundae, Fastand Ode to my father’s fame.
Cha Eun-woo was approached to play the role of a member of a K-pop boy group in K-Pop: Lost in America
The film, which was announced last year for a 2023 release, revolves around a K-pop boy band who find themselves stranded in Texas just days before the start of their first world tour at Madison Square Garden in New York.
They are stranded without their phones, without money and without means of transport. The idol group must overcome a series of crazy obstacles in order to make it to New York in time for their US debut.
Last year film producers Linda Obst who produced Matthew McConaughey Interstellar, and Miky Lee of Parasite fame, said they plan to cast real K-pop stars in the film.
According to an exclusive report from Deadline, Rebel Wilson and Charles Melton have both been cast in the new Hollywood film K-Pop: Lost in Americawhich is set to begin filming this fall.
It’s also worth noting that actor Charles Melton, who starred in Riverdale and American Horror Storiesis half-Korean and has also lived in Korea for a few years.
