Bhupinder Singh: Revisiting five best Bollywood tracks from the single playback singer
veteran singer Bhupinder Singh, who had lent his melodic voice to many Bollywood songs and ghazals, died at Criticare Hospital in Mumbai on Monday. He was 82 years old.
From Mausam’s 1975 classic “Dil Dhoontta Hai” to Jewel Thief’s more upbeat “Hothon Pe Aisi Baat”, Bhupinder had displayed his vocal range in several hits. Apart from playback vocals, Bhupinder has also been credited as a guitarist in many Hindi film numbers including Dev Anand Hare Rama Hare Krishna’s “Dum Maaro Dum” and Yaadon Ki Baaraat’s “Chura Liya Hai”.

Huzoor Is Kadar Bhi Na Itra ke Chaliye
The sweetly melancholic, though seductive, song features in the 1983 film Masoom, starring Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah in the lead roles. Composed by Rahul Dev Burman, the song was brought to life by the powerful vocals of Bhupinder Singh.
Hothon Pe Aisi Baat
This Sachin Dev Burman track is an upbeat number featuring two musical mainstays in the form of Lata Mangeshkar and Bhupinder Singh. Their magical voices blended perfectly to create a sensational and catchy track.
Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Asmaan
Shot on Mithun Chakraborty and Zarina Wahab, this is a romantic ballad sung to perfection by Lata Mangeshkar and Bhupinder Singh. The music was composed by RD Burman and the lyrics were written by renowned songwriter Gulzar.
Kabhi Kisi Ko Muqammal Jahaan Nahi Milta

Dil Dhoonda Hai
Composed by Madan Mohan and written by Gulzar, Mausam’s 1975 “Dil Dhoondta Hai” once again brings out the sad, almost mournful side of Bhupinder Singh’s voice.
Born in Amritsar, Bhupinder Singh started his musical training from childhood even thanks to his father, who was a music teacher. Although he was very successful in his chosen field, it was said that Bhupinder was not very fond of music or the instruments he had to learn as a child. In his early years, Bhupinder was associated with All India Radio as well as Doordarshan. Besides singing, he was also a proficient violinist and guitarist.
Bhupinder got his first big break in 1962 when famed composer Madan Mohan heard him play at a dinner party in Delhi. Apart from his Bollywood career, Bhupinder was known for his adorable ghazals. His first LP came out in 1968.
Bhupinder Singh drifted away from singing after marrying Bangladeshi singer Mitali Mukherjee. The couple collaborated in several concerts and ghazals.
Bhupinder is survived by his wife Mitali Singh and their son Nihal Singh, who is also a singer.
