Man arrested after confrontation near Hollywood Farmers Market
LOS ANGELES (CNS) A man who allegedly fired shots near the Hollywood Farmers Market on Sunday, causing the popular establishment to close, has been taken into custody.
Witnesses called police around 7:30 a.m. Sunday to report that a gunman fired multiple shots in the 1600 block of Cosmo Street, the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section reported. .
Officers arrived to see the suspect screaming and throwing objects from his apartment balcony, police said. There were no injuries, no weapons were seen and officers were attempting to contact the suspect at the time.
At approximately 9:20 a.m., the LAPD reported that there was an active standoff and a SWAT team was called to the scene for the suspect, who had barricaded himself inside the apartment.
Officers fired tear gas into the man’s apartment before entering and arresting him, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Police confirmed around 11:45 a.m. that the suspect had been taken into custody. It was not immediately clear if the man was armed.
