Who is Andrea Kevichusa? Meet the newest Bollywood sensation from Nagaland

Ever so often, people win child prodigy accolades, this is the story of a young woman, Andrea Kevichusa, from Nagaland, who made headlines with her debut film Anek. She comes from the Angami and Ao tribes of Nagaland, and her fashion business career started when she was scouted at the age of 15 and signed with Anima Creative Management, at the age of 16.

Accustomed to being in front of a digital camera, Andrea’s reputation grew at a younger age with her appearance in editorials for magazines such as Vogue India, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Grazia and Femina among others.

She talks about her transition from model to actor and her life experiences with IANSlife.

Can you briefly describe your modeling section and what it looked like?

AK: When my parent company noticed me in 2016 on Instagram after seeing a photo of me, I was 15 at the time. And once they contacted me, it was obvious that I just wanted to accept their offer; However, at the time, I was still a scholar and lived in Kohima. Also, I had no real modeling data. If on. We mentioned it briefly once they informed me that we are a Bombay based company. I just left it there after that. They then stayed in touch and started following me on Instagram after that. And I started taking some pictures once I was 16. I used to get contacted for a Harper’s Bazaar op-ed.

Anima Creative Management traveled to Kohima in Nagaland to meet my family where they described the method. A few months later, I made the choice to maneuver in front. For the first few years, I worked there alongside my research. It happened like this: during my winter and summer holidays, I would move to Mumbai, stay there for about two weeks, then go back to high school.

And what prompted you to make it your job?

AK: At 18, once I finished high school, I made the choice to take a niche hole and move to Bombay with the idea of ​​fulfilling my dream. It’s also now that I was offered half at Anek.

What were your first professional challenges?

AK: I didn’t know much when I moved to Bombay because there weren’t many people from the northeast compared to Delhi. So I had to do every part on my own, although I imagine that was a major hurdle.

The trade didn’t have many Northeast modes once I started. No one was completely unaware of how we can perceive our themes, you recognize that. In this case, I would say the track was already paved, but I think – and I always imagine – that I entered the sphere at a really beneficial interval. As a result, things have improved, and now the company as a whole is much more different than it was when I first entered it. This includes anything from plus size clothing to additional people from all walks of life and ethnicities. There was still a lot of symbolism, that you were just there since you changed your appearance. However, this has now changed.

The popular stigmatization of the term “Northeast” is nothing new. Have you ever been turned down by model scouts or otherwise treated because of your appearance?

AK: No, because, as I said before, I was normally in a very professional environment. Of course, I have encountered this in my professional life, as in all others, but I would not blame it primarily on my physical appearance. You know, like when weird visitors phone us and stuff like that. However, I did not feel any embarrassment in my professional life. Of course, some people are ignorant. And they don’t know where you’re from, or you don’t, but other than that, no.

Children are normally the ones who tease. So there is a college near where I live. So every time I leave my building to go anywhere, I have to prepare myself. It was the worst when Covid started. It’s a very small one, so you won’t be able to fight anymore. However, I imagine it is higher in Mumbai.

Walk me through your journey from model to actor

AK: I didn’t really audition in my opinion. The director of Anek was looking for contemporary faces and other information on the Internet, and the director of the film saw my images on Instagram, that’s how I was forged.

My agent texted me one night a few months after I arrived in Bombay saying there was a movie on so they had to meet you, I assumed it was an audition, and I went to promote the auditions earlier, there’s a long line of people, it’s important to wait your turn and stuff like that. So I had no idea what, who or what else was going on. Other than that, they kept the issues low-key.

I went to the assembly the next day, and to my amazement, it was me alone. They just told me they were going to the movies and they wanted me to play the female protagonist, who could be a boxer. I wasn’t physically used to all of this, and I used to be terrified at first. I didn’t know anyone who had recently transitioned from modeling to anything, so I didn’t know who to talk to, and I was pretty intimidated, but like anything, I took my time plotting it because it was a really good alternative, and this is how each part obtained achieved.

Now that you have started in the Bollywood profession, how do you propose to stabilize the 2 professions?

AK: Although I think I’m open to appearing, modeling will continue to play a major role in my life. I had an ideal expertise showing up, and since I’m extremely adaptable in my experiences, I’m open to anything that comes up.

Have you signed on for any upcoming movies? And who would you like to share the limelight with sooner or later?

AK: Working with someone from the North East might be unlikely for me, in my opinion. I imagine we have a great pool of great actors, and dealing with them could be extraordinarily intriguing.

Everyone measures success in a different way… what do you think is success?

AK: It’s not the pinnacle of my profession, in my opinion. For every game I’ve completed so far, I imagine I must be extraordinarily happy with myself. And everyone has been really helpful to me in my life and in my journey so far. Despite the fact that I’m currently having fun with my career, I don’t think this is its zenith.

What recommendation would you give to young people who need to be pioneers?

AK: I would advise leaving your consolation zone and trying new problems, and that’s coming from someone who has never been outside of their consolation zone. Even if you try it and get rejected afterwards, you will at least feel happy knowing that you just tried it and it didn’t pay off. Because you don’t know your limits in any way, I imagine you have to constantly make an effort to push yourself beyond your comfort zone.
