Hera Phéri 3 is one of the most talked about movies in the last 2 weeks due to various reasons – ranging from Akshay Kumar’s involvement to its release and finally Akshay being replaced by Kartik Aaryan. Since then, there have been discussions about who would be the director on board the film. While the team is keen to have Anees Bazmee on board, the director has yet to give the go-ahead. According to sources, when Anand Pandit decided to team up with Firoz Nadiadwala on the film and things weren’t working out with Akshay Kumar, the duo first went to Varun Dhawan with the offer of Hera Phéri 3. “Both Firoz and Anand wanted Varun Dhawan to step into Raju’s shoes because he has a belief in making comedies like no one else. The two producers also offered David Dhawan to direct the film with Rohit Dhawan as co-director,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.
The source further added, “Although the offer was very tempting, Varun did not want to get into the franchise created by Akshay Kumar. He has immense respect for Akshay Kumar and did not want to use the wrong equation between Akshay and Firoz, to climb the ladder of stardom. Hera Phéri 3 is a safe blockbuster, but Varun walked out of the movie out of respect for Akshay. His father, David Dhawan, also felt the same,” the source added.
After a series of discussions, Varun and David told Firoz and Anand their decision. “It was a blanket deal. As it stands, Firoz is looking for a director, while Anand Pandit may or may not make the film.”
