City approves changes to some venues offering live shows

Every Jamestown business that legally sold alcohol, served food, or provided live entertainment from December 2021 through November 2022, and reapplied, has had its license renewed.

Nine of these requests, however, requested changes to the days and times of their operations.

City Council approved the licenses on Monday with effective dates of December 2022 through November 2023. Among the changes approved, Beech will expand its entertainment from 5 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The 11:00 a.m. departure time will not change.

We haven’t had any entertainment this year, said Beech managing partner Kevin Gaudreau. We thought it would be a good addition to what we’re doing there.

According to Gaudreau, the idea is to allow a harpist on the terrace for bachelor parties, for example. Bands using electric instruments are not part of the plan. The council approved the request with the compromised caveat that amplified instruments were banned after 4 p.m.

At Narragansett Cafe, councilors have approved an extension of hours for the tavern to allow live music until 12.30pm Monday to Saturday. The hours will remain 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for Sunday.

The Generals Crossing applied for a license with a dramatic decrease in entertainment hours. For 2021-22, the brewery has been authorized to offer live entertainment every day, except Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. or 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. depending on the day. The approved request, however, limits live entertainment to 6-8 p.m. every second Thursday of the month. The reason, according to Meagher, was significant complaints from their neighbors.

Curiosity & Co. also got a renewal with a license that cuts entertainment by one hour. The bookstore will now stop offering entertainment at 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, compared to 10 p.m. in 2021-22.

The board approved entertainment hours from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays for JBs on the water at Bay Voyage. Although the restaurant requested an extension to 11 p.m., the restaurant withdrew its request for cooperation with the complaining neighbors.

At J22 Tap & Table, the restaurant has received a license that will allow it to serve alcohol from noon to 1 a.m. on Sundays and Saturdays. In 2021-22, these hours started at 10 a.m. Grapes & Gourmet also applied for and was granted a license with reduced hours. Their liquor license is limited daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., which is one hour less at both ends.

Our Table has changed its days from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily to 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday to Sunday.

Finally, Village Hearth has extended its hours of operation from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. For 2021-22, the bakery was to close at 3 p.m. on Thursdays, 7 p.m. on Fridays and 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Alcohol, bunkering and entertainment remained unchanged at Jamestown Wine & Spirits, One Ferry Wharf, The Caddy Shack, Slice of Heaven, Tallulahs Tacos, Conanicut Yacht Club and Scuttlebutt at West Ferry.
