Players of Utica presents holiday comedy Christmas Belles
UTICA — The 108th season of outstanding local theater continues with the hilarious holiday comedy “Christmas Belles” at The Players of Utica, 1108 State St.
Performances of Les Belles de Noël continue at 7:30 p.m. on December 16 and 17 and at 2 p.m. on December 18.
It is the third show of the 2022-2023 season focusing on comedy and musical entertainment.
The cast includes Jessie Nicholas, Kelly Yule-Motyl, Linda Cunningham, Carol Price, Caitlyn Clark, Lonnie Etter, Joshua Thompson, Alexis Carey, Steven Handzel, Chuck Bastien and Denise Morganti. Directed by Stephen Wagner and written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, the hilarious play is set in the days leading up to Christmas in the fictional town of Fayro, Texas.
At the center of the action are the Futrelle sisters – Frankie, Twink and Honey Raye – who aren’t exactly in the festive mood. Frankie, nine months pregnant with twins, has been weeks late and grumpy like everyone else; Twink, recently abandoned and bitter about it, is in jail for inadvertently burning down half the town; and Honey Raye, who suffers from hot flashes, desperately tries to keep the Tabernacle of the Lamb’s annual Christmas program from descending into chaos.
This season continues Players of Utica’s long history of high-quality entertainment, being the oldest continuously operating community theater in New York State and one of the five oldest in all of the United States – a distinction whose region can be very proud.
