Carl Reiner’s final performance on the stage of the “Princess Bride” with her son Rob Reiner will break your heart
The world lost the legend of comedy Carl Reiner when he died on June 29 at the age of 98. The poignant scene from the remake of “Princess Bride” is part of a charity project led by “Up in the Air” director Jason Reitman and features different performers who interpret scenes from the classic film. The project has been quarantined, with stars such as Jennifer Garner and Joe Jonas filming scenes from their homes.
In one segment, Rob Reiner plays the grandfather with “Frozen” actor Josh Gad in the role of the grandson who pretends not to want to hear the story but becomes riveted by the tale. When the young Reiner revealed that he would also be playing the famous scene “As you wish” with his famous father, no one knew that it would also serve as a sentimental and proper farewell.
In the scene, the elder Reiner performs perfect comic timing as he eloquently reads the story, offering to skip the game with the kiss (the grandson says it’s OK for him to continue).
