Becky G receives the key to Coachella after the festival performance on the main stage to honor her contributions to the Mexican community

COACHELLA, Calif. (KABC) — Becky G, from Inglewood, received the key to Coachella on Saturday.

The city honored the bilingual singer for her contributions to music and the Mexican community.

Becky G, the granddaughter of Mexican immigrants, is an award-winning multi-platinum singer, songwriter, actress and activist.

And, she just performed on both weekends of Coachella.

Becky G thanked the city in a heartfelt message she posted on instagram, saying it meant a lot to represent the Latino community on the festival’s main stage. Especially since Coachella is a 96% Latino community.

“Mayor Steven Hernandez, I am truly honored that you have taken the time to reflect on the efforts of my community and what it means to me to represent us on the main stage,” she wrote in part.

“This year’s festival lineup gives me so much hope for more space, opportunities & representation of our Latin communities. Honored to have made it to the main stage this year. It’s the perfect opportunity to use the massive platform that is this global event to shine the spotlight on the real stars of Coachella,” she wrote.
