Ben Lawson proved you can take the actor out of Queensland, but you can never take the Queenslander out of the actor by sneaking NRL shirts onto the set of hit Netflix show Firefly Lane and recording a video with the co-stars Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke.

Australian fans of the American drama were stunned to see Lawson sporting a Queensland home state jersey in the first series of the hit show.

Now the former Neighbors idol has doubled down, wearing a North Queensland Cowboys heritage jersey in the second set.

He shared a clip on instagram of him wearing the Cowboys strip with Heigl and Chalke, trying to teach them the famous “Queenslander” battle cry made famous by Billy Moore in 1995.

American actors struggle with the Australian accent, with Chalke in particular delivering his lines too eloquently.

Lawson has appeared in a variety of TV shows and movies. He was known for his roles in Neighbors and Designated Survivor before finding more success with the Netflix series.

In the series, his character, Johnny Ryan, is also portrayed as a Cowboys fan.

Needless to say, supporters in North Queensland were thrilled.

Lawson’s character on the show is Australian and he felt it would be authentic to wear a very Australian jersey instead of dressing like an NFL fan.

Lawson was also able to convince the producers to let him wear a Queensland Maroons State of Origin jersey on the show.

“I saw the scene pop up in the script and thought it was an opportunity to reveal something about Johnny [Ryan, his character] with the kind of old clothes he wore at home. he said.
