Live music to fill the Fort Worden art studio
PORT TOWNSEND – Live music returns to Northwind Art School’s open studio this Monday evening with the arrival of band Port Town Zen.
The quartet plans to fill the place with classic jazz and swing, said Tracy Grisman, the ensemble’s bassist.
“I love giving time and space for others – and myself – to make art,” she said. Also a painter and teaching artist, Grisman brings Port Town Zen into the art studio to perform from 6-8 p.m. on Mondays.
The Northwind Art School Open Studio welcomes artists of all skill levels in Building 306 at Fort Worden State Park. Admission is a $10 donation, while proceeds benefit Northwind’s scholarship fund. To register, go to NorthwindArt.org and click on Courses.
Live music can take someone into a lyrical space where thoughts, shapes, colors and memories emerge, Grisman said.

Port Town Zen is Grisman alongside “Busker Scott” Braman on guitar, Cam McMinn on saxophone and Barrett Wilson on conga and cajón. Some of the quartet’s music can be heard at https://www.ptzmusic.net/.
Grisman, also known for her music with husband David’s Dawg Trio, is a well-known visual artist. She will be teaching Introduction to Oil Painting at Northwind Art School May 27-28; The course is open to participants ages 15 to adult.
Grisman’s watercolors and drawings – all of celebrating musicians – are on display at the Grover Gallery, 236 Taylor St., through May 28. More information on northwindart.org.
