Ali Fazal calls Vishal Bharadwaj, Anurag Basu and Ric Roman Waugh ‘cinematic heroes’

Mumbai– Actor Ali Fazal, who collaborated with Vishal Bharadwaj on ‘Khufiya’, with Anurag Basu on ‘Metro In Dino’ and with Ric Roman Waugh on ‘Kandahar’, is delighted with the list of directors he works with. He said that the three directors are “cinematic heroes” and that the visuals created by these directors enhanced storytelling on celluloid.

Speaking of the same, Ali said, “We want to start by working with good people; compassionate leaders with a vision of the world. I absolutely must have done something good to have had this opportunity. Vishalji, Anurag Basu and Ric are cinematic heroes”.

He further mentioned, “They created on-screen visuals that enhanced the quality of the storytelling. They were the visionaries of our film industry.”

“Khufiya” is a spy thriller, which also stars Tabu, Ali, Wamiqa Gabbi, Ashish Vidyarthi, Haque Badhon and Alexx O’Nell. The film should be released on Netflix. In ‘Kandahar’ Ali can be seen with Gerard Butler. The film was released in the United States on May 26 and received a lot of positive reactions.

Rani Mukerji: made a point of choosing films where the girl is also at the heart of the plot

Mumbai– Actress Rani Mukerji has shared her vision for properly portraying women in Hindi cinema. She said that women are the backbone of a family and society and she has a responsibility to show that to people around the world.

Rani says, “As an actress, your view of film and roles will constantly evolve, but one thing that stuck with me was how I wanted to portray and represent women on screen. Women are the backbone of a family and society, and I think as an actress I have a responsibility to show that to as many people as possible in my country and around the world.

She added, “Cinema can have a lasting impression on people’s minds. It’s a very powerful tool to start a national conversation and I realized very early in my career that I could make a real change in the way women are projected on screen, that could be positive.

Rani wanted to show fiercely independent and empowered girls in the movies.

She says, “I made it a point to choose films where the girl is also central to the plot, where the girl is projected with dignity and power.”

“For me, women have always been agents of change. They were independent, brave, caring, chasing dreams, and the best multitaskers you could find. I wanted to highlight these facets of a woman by choosing characters that echo this system of beliefs that is mine.

Rani adds, “So if you see movies like ‘Black’, ‘Veer Zaara’, ‘Mardaani’ series, ‘Yuva’, ‘No One Killed Jessica’, ‘Hichki’ or even my latest movie ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’, to name a few, the girls I play are at the center of the plot, the sheroes that people have adored and accepted to be who they are.

In her latest outing, “Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway (MCVN)”, Rani again played a feisty woman who took on a country to win her children back. The film was a smash hit at the box office and it brought back the belief that content cinema could attract people to movie theaters in this post-pandemic world.

Rani says, “The reason MCVN is successful today is because people want to see strong female leads like this on the big screen. There are constant discussions about whether female-centric films are box office draws? This concerns me, of course, these are box office draws.

“A film is successful when the producers make money from it and it’s not just about how much it brings in at the box office, it’s also about the cost of the film.”

She adds, “There are a lot of misconceptions about what success means and I think people should pay attention to that before judging whether a film is profitable. A good film will always bring people to the cinema and their gender has no role to play.

Nimrat says her ‘former student counselor’ sister helped her in her role as a ‘school of lies’

Mumbai– Actress Nimrat Kaur, who is awaiting the release of her upcoming streaming series ‘School of Lies’, said being the sister of a former student counselor came in handy for her role on the show.

In “School of Lies”, Nimrat tries out for the role of a student adviser, who is roped in to talk to the students after one of them goes missing. Although the actress did not model the character on her sister, having the real-life inspiration at home enhanced her performance.

Speaking to IANS, Nimrat said: “My sister happens to be a former student adviser. So I saw how she took care of the students for many years. She was so exhausted at times because she couldn’t imagine little children going through such incredibly complex issues and even personally, I saw her journey up close.”

She also shared that her sister’s job made her realize how very difficult it can be to deal with children as they are quite mysterious with inquisitive minds.

She further mentioned, “Although I didn’t model this character on her, but I know how difficult it gets and I am aware of the challenges a counselor has to face watching my sister. Thanks to his work, I understood how difficult the world can be for children and how sensitively it is necessary to speak to children without making them feel like children. You have to meet them at eye level, talking to them is a losing battle because children are sensitive, mysterious and how withdrawn they can be”.

“School of Lies” is an eight-episode series that will be available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar starting June 2.
