NEW YORK (AP) Bob Edwards, who hosted National Public Radio's Morning Edition for just under 25 years and was the baritone voice who told many Americans what happened while they slept, is dead.
Edwards, who died Saturday, was 76 years old. NPR had no further details.
He became co-host of All Things Considered with Susan Stamberg in 1974, shortly after joining NPR, and was the founding anchor of Morning Edition in 1979. He left NPR after being replaced on the show in 2004 , a programming change that led to thousands of protests. of listeners and he joined SiriusXM satellite radio.
Edwards' deep, authoritative voice gave many listeners the impression that he was older than he was. It was with this voice that we woke up, Stamberg said.
For 12 years, he had regular conversations with veteran sportscaster Red Barber, which led to Edwards' book, Friday with Red: A Radio Friendship.
Edwards told his listeners about well-known people who were celebrating their birthdays. He later discovered that his birthday announcement for First Lady Rosalynn Carter had surprised and saved her husband, President Jimmy Carter, who had heard Edwards while he was jogging; he had forgotten the birthday.
I love sitting at the microphone and being on the radio, Edwards said shortly before leaving NPR. It's always a kick.
He wrote a memoir, A Voice in the Box: My Life in Radio, and a historical book on the medium, Edward R. Murrow and the Birth of Broadcast Journalism.
John Lansing, CEO of NPR, said Edwards' former colleagues and listeners will remember him with gratitude.
Bob Edwards understood the intimate, directly personal connection with audiences that distinguishes audio journalism from other media, and for decades he was a trusted voice in the lives of millions of public radio listeners, Lansing said.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless.
