Veteran actor Zulu Adigwe dies

Zulu Adigwe, one of Nollywood's best actors, is dead.

AGN National Secretary, Abubakar Yakubu, confirmed Adigwe’s death in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday.

However, he said the Guild was awaiting more details on the manner of his death and burial.

Adigwe, a first class graduate in theater arts at the University of Ibadanbecame a household name in 1987 after playing Mr. B for seven years on the sitcom Basi and Company.

In 2019, the actor starred in the hit film Living in Bondage: Breaking Free.

He has also starred in films like Isakaba, Unforgettable, Blood Diamond, The Mighty Baby, The Grandmaster, My Promise, City of Kings, Divided Heart and many more.

The multi-faceted legend was primarily seen as a chief, traditional ruler, father or elder.

The Nigerian film industry has lost nearly a dozen actors since the start of the year, the latest of which, Junior Pope, died in a boat accident while on his way to a film set.

Other actors the industry has lost include Adejumoke Aderounmu, Mr. Ibu, Sisi Quadri, Olofa Ina, Amaechi Muonagor, Saratu Gidado and Ethel Ekpe.

Due to recent deaths in the industry, AGN President Emeka Rollas announced that popular Nigerian televangelist Jerry Eze would lead a four-day fasting and prayer session against deaths in Nollywood.

He said they decided to seek spiritual help due to the occurrence of deaths in the Nollywood industry.

Rollas said that in view of the recent deaths of two prominent actors and the tragic boat accident which claimed the lives of five crew members including Jnr Pope in Asaba, the Guild decided to seek the intervention divine in fasting and prayers to avoid similar events in the future.
