Mumbai court sentences Parvez Tak to death for murder of actor Laila Khan and 5 others

On May 24, a Mumbai magistrate court awarded death penalty to Parvez Tak in the 2011 murder case of actress Laila Khan and five other members of her family.
On May 9, Justice Sachin Balvant Pawar found Mr. Tak guilty of murder and destruction of evidence, among other offenses under the Indian Penal Code. The judge said the case fell into the rarest category and sentenced him to death. The Bombay High Court will uphold the death sentence.
A resident of Kashmir, Tak was arrested on July 8, 2012 for the murder of Ms Khan, her elder sister Azmina, her twin siblings Zara and Imran, her cousin Reshma and her mother Shelina in their bungalow in Igatpuri near Nashik in Maharashtra in February 2011.
Nadir Patel, Shelina's ex-husband, filed a missing complaint at the Oshiwara police station.
Investigation
Police investigation revealed that Tak and Selina were arguing over his property. During the argument, Tak killed his wife and then the other victims. He was later arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The bodies of the victims were found on the farm.
The prosecution had questioned around 40 witnesses during the trial against Tak. Prosecutor Pankaj Chavan had sought the death penalty against Tak, calling it a brutal and planned murder of six people from a family whose bodies were decomposed in a pit near the house.
