Johnny Wactors' last words seconds before his untimely death – NBC Los Angeles
Johnny Wactor's co-worker on Friday recounted the final moments of the General Hospital actor who was shot and killed in downtown Los Angeles last week.
Anita Joy, who worked with Wactor at the Level 8 bar for nearly a year, said they were walking to their cars near Pico Boulevard and Hope Street.
We noticed his car was at a strange angle, Joy recalls. Our first thought was: Oh, no. We were being towed.
Quickly, they realized three people were trying to steal a catalytic converter from Wactors' car.
He continued to move ahead of me, she remembers. We confronted the guys and said, Hey, that's his car. What are you doing?
Joy said Wactor had his palms raised to the side when one of the robbers stood up and fired his gun.
Johnny walked towards it and I heard a gunshot. I heard a crack, she described. The guy just reacted and shot him. There was no warning, no verbal confrontation. It was just an immediate reaction.
Joy said she didn't realize he had been shot until she tried to pick him up after he fell to the ground.
I said, Johnny honey, are you okay? And he said: No. Shot!
Joy said that seconds after Wactor said his last words, she saw blood on his hands, shirt and chest.
He was shot directly in the chest, Joy said, saying it all happened quickly.
Although she said she was still taking it one day at a time after the traumatic incident, she said she was with Wactor when he died.
I really feel like he’s my new guardian angel,” Joy said. I'm grateful to be with him. He was not alone.
