Producers called Amitabh Bachchan a constipated actor and would have him kicked out of studios when his films didn't work: Shekhar Suman remembers stories | Bollywood News
Insisting on the unpredictability of an actor's life, Shekhar Suman recalled an anecdote about Amitabh Bachchan, which Shashi Kapoor had told him several years ago. Shekhar made his acting debut in the film Utsav, produced by Shashi Kapoor, who 'discovered' him out of the blue and cast him in the film just weeks after he arrived in Mumbai from Bihar. Shekhar said Bachchan had a series of failures in the beginning and was completely written off by the industry. He ultimately became the biggest male movie star the country has ever produced.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, while addressing the failure his son Adhyayan Suman had to endure after his debut, Shekhar said, “I was listening to one of Bachchan Saab's interviews, and he said that during the initial years, 13-14 -15 of his films failed. And the directors, without naming him, called him “this constipated actor”.

He continued, “I know this for a fact because Shashi Kapoor told me. He said there were producers who couldn't work without him later, but they were the ones who were like, “Oh my God, this constipated actor came back looking for work.” Throw him off the board, who let him in?' He was rejected for having a bad voice by All India Radio, when he auditioned to become a newsreader. How ironic is that? They said he didn't have a good voice, some said he was too tall.
Shekhar then recalled the “worst” story Bachchan had told about his struggles. “He said he was coming out of a studio and he was sitting in his car, his parents were sitting behind him. A guy came and knocked on the window, and he cursed in chaste Hindi and said, “Who the hell asked you to come here?” Have you seen your face? Go back where you came from. Can you imagine?”
Shekhar said anyone in that position would have given up and changed paths, but Bachchan persevered. “He took everything on his chin because he had confidence in himself,” Shekhar said. Bachchan is still considered the biggest male star in the country and will next be seen in the big-budget Telugu film Kalki 2898 AD. Shekhar, on the other hand, was seen in the Netflix series Constitution: The Diamond Bazaar.
