Pasadena celebrates its 138th birthday today with a Hollywood-themed party – Pasadena Now

The Pasadena History Museum and the City of Pasadena will host a Tinseltown-themed party today to celebrate the city's 138th birthday. The free community event, titled “Happy Birthday Pasadena: Silver Screen Extravaganza!” ”, will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the Pasadena History Museum.

Inspired by the museum's new exhibition, “Lights, Camera, Action!” Hollywood Magic in Pasadena,” the anniversary celebration will feature a variety of movie-themed activities for all ages. Attendees can walk the red carpet, pose for photos on film sets, watch classic silent films, learn iconic dance moves and enjoy live musical performances.

The official cake cutting ceremony will be led by Mayor Victor M. Gordo at 2:00 p.m., followed by free birthday cake for everyone. Free cinema ticket draws will be held for costumed visitors at 2:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

“We are thrilled to partner with the City of Pasadena to celebrate this milestone anniversary,” said a museum spokesperson. “The Hollywood theme perfectly complements our new exhibit and promises a day of fun for the entire community.”

Pasadena, one of the first cities to incorporate into Los Angeles County, has a rich history as a popular winter resort and cultural center. The city's incorporation on June 19, 1886, marked the beginning of its transformation from a small agricultural colony into a renowned destination known for its mild climate, affluent residents, and artistic influences.

Pasadena's well-preserved architecture, scenic beauty, and proximity to Hollywood made it an extremely popular destination for location filming throughout the movie studio heyday of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940.

Event co-chairs Sandi Mejia and Andrew Stevens, along with a dedicated committee, have planned an unforgettable celebration that highlights Pasadena's unique heritage and connection to the silver screen.
