Actor Darshan under police investigation: Karnataka Home Minister

Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Tuesday said that prominent Kannada film actor Darshan Thoogudeepa was being investigated by the police in connection with an alleged murder and It would only be known after the investigation whether he was involved or not.

The 47-year-old was arrested from a hotel in Mysuru in connection with the murder of a man, identified as Renuka Swamy, on June 9 in Kamakshipalya area of the city, police sources said.

After the alleged murder, the body of Swamy, who worked in a pharmaceutical company and hailed from district capital Chitradurga, was dumped in a storm drain in Kamakshipalya, the sources said.

“A person from Chitradurga was murdered in Bangalore. In connection with this murder, some people were arrested, and during their investigation, Darshan's name came up, so he was brought for investigation,” Parameshwara told the journalists.

“Until the investigation is completed, nothing can be said. Whether he (Darshan) is involved or not. What is the reason for the murder. Why did his name come up? All these things will not be known only after the investigation. So at this stage at some point, we can't say anything else,” he added.

It is alleged that the deceased had made derogatory comments against a film actress in a social media post.

To a question, Parameshwara said, “He (Darshan) was arrested from Mysuru and was brought to Bengaluru. He is in police custody and under investigation.
