Irving Mayor Gives Actor Kevin Costner Keys to the City
IRVING, Texas The city of Irving presented Yellowstone actor Kevin Costner with a key to the city on Tuesday.
The presentation comes as Costner promotes his latest film, Horizon: An American Saga, a four-part film series set in the American West during the Civil War. The first two films, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, will be released on June 28 and August 16, 2024.
According to a city video, the key was given to Costner because of his celebration of the American West in his most recent career and films.
The key was presented to Costner on Tuesday by Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer in front of the Mustangs of Las Colinas, a Robert Glen sculpture installation created to capture the free spirit embodied in Texas heritage, according to the City of Irvings website.
Costner joked with the crowd asking what he could do with the key. He asked if he could buy the larger-than-life horse statues, since he had the key.
I appreciate it. I'm not too cool for school, Costner told a crowd gathered at Williams Square Plaza. The only gesture I can do in return, really, is that in my job, I have chosen to make a film that will perhaps touch you.
Stopfer said he discussed with Costner the possibility of bringing one of his films to Irving and told the actor to remember Irving.
