Another armed robbery injures West Hollywood resident – NBC Los Angeles

West Hollywood resident Daniel Berilla and his friends were returning home early Monday morning after spending time in the Rainbow District when they were suddenly approached by three men.

At that moment, I said to myself: OK. I'm about to be eliminated right now, Berilla remembers.

He said one of the men demanded Berilla's bag, then snatched it from his hands and left laceration marks on his arm.

At least one of the robbers had a gun during the altercation near the intersection of Cynthia and Larabee, in front of the Petit Ermitage Hotel, a block from the West Hollywood sheriff's station.

While his thieves were distracted while trying to steal his phone, Berilla said he ran away as quickly as he could to get help.

The latest assault and robbery took place in the same area where a similar, high-profile crime occurred nearly a year ago. Three men were also ambushed at gunpoint.

After the April 2023 incident, the city of Weset Hollywood promised to step up patrols by its unarmed security ambassadors.

But Berilla said he had never seen or felt that presence.

Personally, I have never seen them walking the streets to the places where the crime takes place, like in Larabee, in Palm. I don't see them walking up and down, he said.

In response, the city of West Hollywood said in a statement that crime generally decreased after the city's safety ambassador program began in 2022.

But from January to April of this year, NBC4's I-Team learned that 33 thefts were reported in West Hollywood, two more than the same time last year. Weapons were used in more than half of the incidents.

I am scared. I feel paranoid, Berilla said. I feel cheated by all the money I pay in rent and taxes in the city. I feel like this isn't going to keep people like me alive.
