Section 31 Actor Teases His 'Very Intense' Character, Praises 'Heroine' Michelle Yeoh – TrekMovie.com

The next live action version of Star Trek could be the Article 31 streaming movie. We don't yet know much about the project starring Michelle Yeoh, but now one of the new actors is making fun of her character a little.

A broken soul in Article 31

James Hiroyuki Liao was one of seven actors announced in the casting of Star Trek: Section 31 in January, but without description of the characters. He is currently advertising for a role in the new Apple limited series. Presumed innocent And ScreenRant I took the opportunity to talk about Trek. Liao was hesitant to say anything specific but teased his character:

All I can say is that my guy is very, very intense. Without giving anything away, he's a broken soul, and hurt people hurt people.

It looks like Liao could play a villain, which is something that should be the case in a streaming movie about Starfleet's infamous Section 31 organization. The film stars Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh, reprising her Discovery role as former land emperor turned Section 31 agent, Phillipa Georgiou. The official synopsis states that she is tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, but also must face the sins of her past. Perhaps Liao's character is linked to some of these past sins.

The actor spoke about what it was like working with Yeoh, saying:

This is perhaps one of the greatest characters I have had the chance to play, and working with my hero [Michelle Yeoh] for so long, it's just a crazy time for me. I work with so many people that I have admired for so long. Michelle Yeoh is just everything and I loved working with her. It was also such a special casting. I was on cloud nine. I'm so lucky.

Liao is a Juilliard-trained actor with a long history in Hollywood. He recently appeared in the HBO series Barry and the Hulu limited series The dropout. He had a recurring role on the long-running CBS series Blue blood and is a series regular on the upcoming AMC show Orphan Black: echoes.

Besides Georgiou from Yeoh, we know the Article 31 the film will include a young Rachel Garrett (Kacey Rohl), the future captain of the USS Enterprise-C from the TNG episode Yesterdays Enterprise, indicating that the streaming film could take place in the “lost era“between the TOS films and the TNG era. The only official photo from the film also reveals the back of the head of a new character named Dada Noe (Joe Pingue).

Production on the Article 31 The streaming film ended in March. Paramount+ has not yet set a release date.
