The voice actor for the Disney villain Jafar arrives on Cape Cod. Here's why.
More than a dozen influential people in the world of art and theater, including Ron Suskind, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist And Broadway star Jonathan Freeman will meet on June 20 at Chatham Orpheum Theater.
Celebrities come to talk about how the arts can change the lives of people on the autism spectrum and the contribution that people on the autism spectrum can make to the arts.
“I wanted the opportunity to educate people about the myriad talents that lie inside these incredible neurodivergent people,” Heroes of My Imagination organizer Kim Roderiques emailed.
The event will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Chatham Orpheum Theater, which Roderiques said will donate the entire $25 ticket price to Capabilities, a group that coordinates employment, housing and enrichment for people with disabilities. Tickets are available at chathamorpheum.org or at the door at 511 Main Street.
Actor, producer and theater teacher Alan Rusttheater director of the Hartt School at the University of Hartford who also directed the Monomoy Theater in Chatham for nearly 50 years, will moderate.

The voice of Jafar in Disney's “Aladdin”
The panel includes Suskind and Freeman, who voiced Jafar in the 1992 Disney animated feature film, Aladdin and was seen for 8 years recreating his famous role on Broadway.
Suskind is the author of Life, Animated: A Story of Sidekicks, Heroes and Autism about life with his son Owen, who is on the autism spectrum and learned to communicate by watching Disney characters. Suskind met Freeman when he sent a note asking the actor to meet his son for Owens' birthday.
The 2014 book was made into the documentary “Life, Animated,” nominated for an Academy Award in 2017.
Also on the panel are Mashpee resident Tedi Marsh and her daughter, Isabeau Miller, who co-produced How to Dance in Ohio, along with the first Broadway cast made up entirely of people on the autism spectrum.
Nate Olin, Cape Cod artist and award-winning arts educator (who worked with Owen Suskind) and Nina Schuessler, performer and retired executive/artistic director of the Cape Cod Theater Project/Harwich Childrens Theater will also contribute. The panel is rounded out by Emmy Award-winning writer Dani Davis and singer Matthew Newcombe, who performs with the Cape Symphony.
Liam Campbell, 29, will greet people at the door. Like soup, he'll tell you about a Chatham man who is on the spectrum and also unlocked his voice at age 5 by watching Sesame Street and Disney.
Roderiques, who met Liam a decade ago through his father, Tommy, and helped them market their book, 99 Cents Short, remembers how Liam once told him that if I hadn't art, I couldn't breathe.
Roderiques, a photographer, author and community organizer in Chatham, said she hopes this forum will help create a world that nurtures all artists.
