Governor DeSantis discusses South Florida flood recovery efforts in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, Florida. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis held a press conference in Hollywood on Friday morning.

DeSantis addressed flooding in South Florida caused by intense rains brought on by a tropical disturbance.

He was accompanied by Florida Division of Emergency Management Executive Director Kevin Guthrie and Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue.

Hollywood city officials said they have seen nearly 20 inches of rain in the area since Tuesday.

And in Fort Lauderdale, the situation was more of the same, as the mayor said crews were facing a difficult situation.

Despite heavy flooding, Hollywood residents were grateful Friday morning as the high waters that flooded streets, forcing cars to be towed, began to recede.

DeSantis said at least 100 pumps were being used to remove water from severe flooding.

He also said his office is in constant communication with the Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which are assisting with recovery efforts.

Guthrie urged residents to stay off the roads if possible and keep records of property damage inside their homes.

DeSantis said we are expected to get more rain, but said South Florida has the staff and emergency response teams in place to deal with it.

Hollywood city officials said they are requesting more pumps to help deal with flooding as more rain is expected in the forecast.
