VC JU inaugurates workshop on Kathak technique used in Bollywood – Rising Kashmir

Jammu, June 14: A ten-day workshop on thematic Kathak technique used in Bollywood choreography, organized by the Kathak department of the Institute of Music and Fine Arts, was inaugurated on Friday by Prof. Umesh Rai, vice-chancellor of the University of Jammu, in the presence of students. professors and members of civil society in the IMFA premises.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Umesh Rai congratulated the Kathak department of IMFA for organizing a meaningful workshop on a meaningful title. He said music and fine arts have a vital place in the New Education Policy (NEP).
These types of workshops are meaningful for students as they also gain knowledge about NEP. He said Kathak techniques have played a vital role in Bollywood, especially in classic films. It is necessary at present that traditional dance of Indian classical music should also be brought to the new generation, the Vice-Chancellor said. He appreciated the role of Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal IMFA, along with Dr. Priya Dutta, HOD Music and her team in organizing musical functions again and again. IMFA is an important part of the University of Jammu. In future, it will provide all types of facilities, the vice-chancellor said.
Dr. Priya Dutta, HOD Music, while speaking on the occasion, discussed the aims and objectives of the workshop. She informed that students of Kathak dance department and students of various schools of Jammu region are participating in the 10-day workshop. She also informed that for the revival of traditional Indian culture, more and more workshops would be organized by the Music Department in the near future.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik highlighted various problems faced by IMFA. It discusses in detail the issues of faculty, non-teaching faculty and infrastructure of IMFA. He congratulates Dr. Priya Dutta and her team for organizing a meaningful workshop on a meaningful theme.
It is pertinent to mention here that the workshop is attended by 32 participants from IMFA and different schools of Jammu province. The workshop benefits from the collaboration of Himalayan Education Mission, Rajouri.
