Actor Darshan is not married to Pavithra Gowda, just friends, claims his lawyer
Pavithra Gowda, one of the main suspects in the case murder of a fan of popular Kannada actor Darshanis only a friend of the actor and not his wife, Darshan's lawyer Anil Babu clarified.
Earlier this week, Darshan, Pavithra Gowda and 14 others were arrested for allegedly murdering Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old resident of Chitradurga.
Speaking to India Today TV, Anil Babu categorically denied reports suggesting that Pavithra Gowda is Darshan Thoogudeepa's second wife or partner. He said that Vijayalakshmi is the legally married wife of the actor and Pavithra Gowda is just a co-star and friend.
“Pavithra Gowda being the second wife is completely wrong. She's just a friend. They were co-stars and now they have a friendly relationship, nothing else. The only wife [of Darshan] is the first wife, Vijayalakshmi. At no time did any second marriage take place,” said Anil Babu.
Babu further said that Darshan had no connection with Renukaswamy and was not involved in the alleged murder. Addressing CCTV footage showing Darshan's car Near the crime scene, Babu said the actor was not in the car and the police had not provided any evidence to prove his presence at the spot.
CCTV footage accessed by India Today showed a red Jeep belonging to the actor at the murder site. The Jeep was seen following a Scorpio car believed to have been used to dump the body. Both cars were seized by the police.
Anil Babu said, “The first question is whether this car belongs to Darshan, that is yet to be established. Secondly, the police must say that Darshan was present inside the car, that is the most important thing.”
Asked about police allegations that the actor paid the other accused to dispose of Renukaswamy's body and cover up the case, Anil Babu said, “Darshan is not involved in this case at all. So no question arises whether he paid anyone or how much. had been paid. He doesn't know anything about it.
In related news, two more individuals, Jagadish and Anukumar, were arrested on Friday in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. Police sources told news agency PTI that they were arrested from Chitradurga by a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dinakar. The two were allegedly involved in the kidnapping of Renukaswamy in Chitradurga.
Darshan, known as “Challenging Star”, and 12 of his close associates were arrested on Tuesday for the murder of Renukaswamy. The victim, an autorickshaw driver and member of Darshan's fan club in Chitradurga, was found dead on Sumanahalli Bridge in Bengaluru. He allegedly sent derogatory messages to Pavithra Gowda.
On Saturday, the police custody of actor Darshan, his friend Pavithra Gowda and eleven other accused was extended after the investigation team requested the court to recover crucial evidence and equipment used to torture the deceased .
