Firefighters put out brush fires on Highway 101 in Hollywood Hills
Los Angeles Fire crews extinguished a three-acre brush fire in the Hollywood Hills on Sunday, prompting the closure of an exit from the southbound 101 Freeway.
It took more than 100 firefighters just under two hours to stop the fire at 2699 Cahuenga Boulevard from advancing, according to an LAFD. Press release.
Crews responded to reports of a fire just north of the John Anson Ford Amphitheater around 2:17 p.m.
Officials said firefighting helicopters made strategic water drops at the head of the fire while ground crews received water on both flanks of the brush, creating a perimeter confinement.
California Highway Patrol officers had closed the south Highland Avenue exit of Highway 101 while crews battled the fire. It is unclear whether the off-ramp has since been reopened.
The cause of the brusher remains under investigation. No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.
Two more wildfires continue to rage in Southern California.
The fast-moving post-fire on Highway 5 in Gorman, which prompted evacuation orders Saturday, has burned more than 12,000 acres and is only 2% contained.
In Hesperia, mandatory evacuations were also ordered Saturday as a brush fire in the 18000 block of North Highway 173 ravaged several hundred acres and has since grown to more than 1,300 acres and is contained at 7%.
Firefighters will remain on scene in the Hollywood Hills overnight to ensure there are no further outbreaks, officials said.
