Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm actor Hiram Kasten dies at 71

Actor Hiram Kasten, known for his work on TV shows like Saved by the Bell, Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm, has died at the age of 71, the New York Post reported.

According to the Facebook post, the actor was battling prostate cancer. The actor died in the arms of his wife Diana Kisiel Kastenbaum “just hours after their 38th wedding anniversary,” the message read.

Kasten has been battling Crohn's disease for seven years, in addition to cancer. He died at his home in Batavia, New York.

While Kasten's “health had deteriorated and he was no longer performing or actively pursuing his career” as of 2017, “he only began sharing the end of it all with his friends over the past six months,” the message read.

His “large comedy and arts community rallied to his side,” as some traveled to Batavia to visit him, late-night Zoom meetings with friends from both coasts ensued and extended into the early morning hours. “Being able to laugh with his peers extended his life by at least two months,” his wife added.

Kasten's best-known performance was as Michael on Seinfeld between 1993 and 1994.

The actor gained recognition in the comedy industry by becoming a frequent performer at the Comic Strip, a legendary club that once played the home of Jerry Seinfeld. This helped establish him in the New York comedy scene.

Seinfeld “passed Hiram at his first audition and he became a regular,” with the pair forming “a friendship that has lasted 45 years,” Diana wrote in the post.

In addition to being a part of Seinfeld, Kasten has made appearances on Saved By the Bell, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Cybill, Mad About You and Everybody Loves Raymond.

In the early 2000s, Kasten made guest appearances on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, My Wife and Kids, and 7th Heaven.

The Bronx-born actor is survived by his wife Diana, daughter Millicent Jade and brother-in-law Kevin John Kisiel, the New York Post reported.
