No, President Biden didn't freeze up at a star-studded Hollywood fundraiser

Less than a week after being ridiculed for using a misleadingly edited clip of President Joe Biden to suggest he had lost his way during a G7 economic summit in Italy, right-wing pundits and the media, including Rupert Murdochs New York Postpublished another series of articles featuring a similar clip of the president, this time in an attempt to smear the 81-year-old for freezing while on stage at a fundraiser.

In a statement to the Daily Beast, the White House expressed outrage at the so-called cheap forgery, which it said is a sign of poor journalistic ethics at a number of conservative publications.

The practice of deceptively editing and circulating clips of political opponents has been increasingly used in recent weeks by Republican lawmakers and conservative publications, including to highlight issues related to Biden's age .

The Sunday video shows Biden and former President Barack Obama on stage at the end of a star-studded fundraiser in Hollywood, to cheers from the crowd. The president and his predecessor had just attended a late-night interview with host Jimmy Kimmel for more than half an hour at the Los Angeles Peacock Theater.

After greeting the applauding crowd for nearly a minute, Obama reaches out and gently touches Biden's arm before leaving the stage together.

As is often the case with recent cheap fake stories, the Republican National Committee first posted a misleading clip on his RNC Research account about X that cut out most of the time leading up to this seemingly innocuous moment.

THE New York Post then used a similarly cut video under the title Biden appears to freeze, must be led off stage by Obama at mega-dollar fundraiser in Los Angeles. The daily mail, News week, Breitbart and a host of other conservative media outlets have also followed suit, sparking outrage from figures like Pier Morgan and hundreds more on social media.

In a statement to the Daily Beast, White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates suggested that this growing trend was indicative of these publications' collapsing journalistic standards.

After being fact-checked by at least six mainstream media outlets for lying about President Biden with cheap fakes, Rupert Murdoch's sad little super pac, the New York Post, is back to disrespecting his readers and himself- same, Bates said. Their ethical standards could use a little thawing.

By claiming that the president welcomes a cheering crowd for a few seconds is somehow false, all they are once again admitting is that they cannot provide the leadership that fuels the highest growth economy, bringing violent crime to a 50-year low, restoring manufacturing. jobs abroad and strengthening our alliances.

The New York Post did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Beast.

Last week, the New York Post made its story about Biden's wandering at the G7 conference the cover of its print edition, under the headline MEANDER IN CHIEF. The only problem with his story? The photos and accompanying video in his online story left out an alternate angle that showed Biden simply congratulating a skydiver who had just landed near a group of world leaders.

Earlier this month, the same group of publications followed the same storyline to suggest that Biden froze again while on a dance floor at a Juneteenth celebration. cut video easily to exclude people who are right next to the president.

Days earlier, Trumpworld influencers used a 13-second video to suggest that Biden had pooped his pants during an event in France to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the landings. Many of the same right-wing media outlets also covered these claims.

But even some in Trumpworld questioned the absurd accusation, with one Republican strategist telling the Daily Beast at the time: I don't know what Biden was doing. It looked weird, but was he shitting his pants? I don't know.

The strategist, who asked to speak on condition of anonymity, added: This is the war of internet influencers to spread misinformation or half, half-truths.
