Hollywood Arby's closes after 55 years on Sunset Boulevard
HOLLYWOOD, CA Arby's on Sunset Boulevard may be better known for its iconic 10-gallon hat than for its sandwiches, closed on weekends after 55 years in business.
The restaurant, which closed Saturday, had been owned by Marilyn Leviton since it opened Jan. 5, 1969. The 91-year-old restaurateur told KTLA she had struggled to stay open for years.
Leviton said, “I think it was the pandemic that destroyed us,” citing COVID-era federal loan programs that helped the outlet stay afloat. Other factors that contributed to the store's demise are California's recent minimum wage hike for fast food restaurants and equipment upgrades required by Arby's headquarters, KTLA reported.

The restaurant is well known for its enormous red, yellow and white neon sign in the shape of a 10-gallon cowboy hat, which now reads “farewell Hollywood TY for 55 great years” on its marquee.
The location is one of several places around the country that offer versions of this unique sign. Locally, the Reseda location also has a large cowboy hat out front.
Designed by Peskin Sign Company, the signs were constructed between 1964, when Arby's opened in Ohio, and 1975, according to Offbeat LA
