Since the early 2000s, the Minnesota State Fair has commissioned a Minnesota artist to create commemorative artwork for each year's fair.
After 19 displays over 20 years, this program is over, a State Fair spokesperson confirmed.
For this year, rather than working with an outside local artist, the Fair will create a commemorative design in-house that can be adapted for various fair products, officials said in a statement. This design will be announced next month.

As for why the program is ending, Fair officials said in a statement that it accomplished our original goals, which were to expand our connections with local visual artists and the arts community and explore this program as a source of revenue for the Minnesota State Fair Foundation. , the nonprofit organization funding improvements to the Falcon Heights Fairgrounds.
Additionally, fair officials discussed the logistical challenges of producing and selling poster prints as well as storing and displaying original artwork.
Concerns about storage space were also the reason the State Fair chose to sunset its iconic memorial bench program earlier this year.
Artists who have previously participated in the commemorative art program include muralist Ta-coumba Aiken, Mary GrandPre, Harry Potter illustrator and pop artist Adam Turman. Last year's retroactive poster, the series finale, was created by agricultural artist Liz Schreiber and is on display through March 2025 at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
This year's state fair will be the second under the responsibility of new CEO Renée Alexandera longtime leader in entertainment and marketing of the fair, who took over management of the fair in early 2023. Admission ticket prices will be no increase for this yeara priority of Alexanders.
The 2024 Minnesota State Fair runs from August 22 to September 2, Labor Day.
