Ekta Kapoor fired Hansal Mehta from daily soap after just 15 days: It looks too much like a film, please leave | Bollywood News

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta spoke about the many ups and downs of his career, which saw him take on roles as diverse as wedding videographer, cooking show creator and Bollywood grandpa. In an interview, he recalled turning to television to make ends meet during a particularly difficult phase, but said he was fired from the project by Balaji Telefilms chief Ekta Kapoor. Years later, Ekta launched her streaming career with the show Bose: Dead or Alive.

In a conversation with Mid-day, Hansal said that filmmaker Sanjay Gupta “saved” his life by giving him the opportunity to direct the film Woodstock Villa, a launch for Kirron Kher's son Sikandar. He expressed gratitude to Sanjay for giving him “a job and a stable income”, as he had “reached a point where (he) could no longer survive”. He said, “I tried to do an Ekta Kapoor show, K Street Pali Hill. It was a daily soap opera; I went to direct that. I was fired in 15 days.

Hansal said he then did a show for another channel, a gangster drama in which “Dara Singh played Don Corleone”.
