Free outdoor concert series brings new artists

Music from Cuba, Canada, Louisiana and beyond will flow freely on outdoor stages this summer through three free concert series.

First up: Sequim's Music in the Park with The Randall Wolf Band, playing from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the James Center for the Performing Arts bandshell at Carrie Blake Park, 500 N. Blake Ave.

Next up is Port Angeles' Concerts on the Pier, with The Works, a classic rock band taking the stage at City Pier Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The third is the Pier Concerts, which take place not on a pier but at Pope Marine Park on Water Street in Port Townsend. This free eight-week series begins at 5 p.m. on July 11 with Marmalade, a funk-soul-hip-hop-Afrobeat band from Seattle.

“The majority of the bands will be new to our audience, and we will also feature a few local favorites,” said Mari Mullen, executive director of the Port Townsend Main Street program.

That mix will also happen in Port Angeles, said Kari Chance, executive director of the Juan de Fuca Foundation.

“I was able to work with a few agents,” Chance said, “and since our shows are on Wednesdays, we were able to get a few [bands] who are going to be in the area” between concerts around the Puget Sound.

For example: The Powell Brothers will bring country music to City Pier on August 14; Curley Taylor and Zydeco Trouble will perform on July 10.

Canadian rocker Jesse Roper will bring his five-piece outfit to City Pier for the first time this August. Roper, who performed on the main stage and gave a songwriting workshop at the Juan de Fuca Festival in May, can't wait to soak up the place again.

The energy is strong in Port Angeles, Roper said, “and people are super supportive. Every time we play there, we shake our heads and say, “That was something.” »

Chance and Will Mullen close out their concert series with a well-known hometown artist. In Port Angeles, it's Black Diamond Junction with its classic hits; in Port Townsend, it's Kevin Mason and the PT All-Stars.

The series have different weather policies: Wednesday concerts on the Pier take shelter under the Gateway Pavilion at Front and Lincoln streets in Port Angeles; while a concert on the pier is canceled if it rains Thursday afternoon in Port Townsend.

Roper said that whatever the genre, whatever the city, free outdoor concerts speak a universal language.

“I’m trying to have a good time up there,” he said. “That translates to the people at the show.”

“You know, the pleasure becomes addictive.”

One important advantage is the speed at which information is sent and received. With the help of the internet, the shopping habits of many persons have drastically changed. The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
