Actor Darshan returns to Parappana Agrahara jail after 13 years
Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, who was arrested for torture and murder of a 33-year-old man named Renukaswamyhas been placed in police custody until July 4.
Darshan, along with three other accused, Pradosh, Vinay and Dhanraj, will be lodged in Parappana Agrahara jail in Bengaluru. This is the same prison where the actor was incarcerated 13 years ago in another case for assaulting his wife.
In September 2011, Darshan was arrested for assaulting his wife Vijayalakshmi and was remanded for 28 days in Parappana Agrahara jail. The actor was later released on bail, the couple later resolved the issue and she withdrew the case.
Darshan was arrested in the Renukaswamy murder case on June 11 and was in police custody since then. The Bengaluru court remanded 13 other accused, including the actor's friend Pavithra Gowda, to 14-day judicial remand two days ago.
Special public prosecutor Prasanna Kumar requested the judge to transfer some of the accused to different jails. He argued that if they were all in the same prison they could conspire and should be held separately to avoid this.
In total, 17 people are accused in the murder of Renukaswamy, an auto driver from Chitradurga.
According to police sources, the victim was a fan of the actor and he had sent obscene messages to Gowda, which angered Darshan, which allegedly led to his murder.
Darshan's fan club members allegedly kidnapped Renukaswamy, tortured and killed him. The actor was also allegedly involved in the attack on the victim.
Renukaswamy's body was found on June 9 near a storm drain adjacent to an apartment in Bangalore's Sumanahalli area. His autopsy revealed details of horrific torture.
