Kannada actor Darshan and three others taken into judicial custody

Thirteen years after he was jailed in a domestic violence case, Kannada actor Darshan was sent to judicial custody along with three of his associates till July 4 by the 24th Additional Metropolitan Magistrate on Saturday in the Renukaswamy murder case.
Darshan, Vinay, Dhanraj and Pradosh were handed over to the jail authorities after completing formalities.
The accused were in police custody for 13 days, while Pavithra Gowda, who is accused no. 1 along with Darshan's partner, along with 12 others were taken into judicial custody on June 20.
The police have so far arrested 17 people in the case and efforts are on to recover the mobile data.

Request for pre-trial detention
As per the remand application, the police said that as the data of the mobile phones used by the accused and witnesses in the case had been deleted, the police, with the permission of the court, had contacted the service providers to access the data again.
The police are also trying to recover Renukaswamy's mobile phone, which was thrown into the storm drain to destroy evidence. The police are now seeking help from service providers to obtain call recording details and phone data.
An investigation is also underway to determine the source of the money Darshan had given to the other accused, which is crucial.
A new track
Meanwhile, the police have got a new lead in the case and are trying to find out the details of the person who had visited the crime scene soon after the murder. The information was obtained from Pradosh during interrogation, sources said.
The investigation team also found that the instrument used to torture Renukaswamy was purchased by the accused online and the online payment document was being recovered.
The police also raised concerns over the safety of the other accused and alleged that they were in danger from Darshan and his three associates in the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.
The police filed a separate complaint in this regard and requested the court to transfer them to the Tumakuru district jail.
Police alleged that the accused also removed the clothes worn by Renukaswamy and destroyed them in a bid to tamper with evidence.
Meanwhile, lawyers representing the accused told media that they would approach higher courts seeking relief for their clients citing technicalities and police lapses.
