Terry Joyce dies: Comedian and actor who starred in BBC series Byker Grove and Hebburn dies as tributes flow into The Sun

COMEDIAN and actor Terry Joyce, who starred in Byker Grove, has died as heartfelt tributes pour in.

The much-loved star joined the cast of the hit BBC series as Gerry in the 90s.

Most recently he starred in the hit BBC sitcom Hebburn, for which he took on the role of a lawyer.

The cast included Chris Ramsey, Gina McKee, Vic Reeves and Jason Cook.

He also had roles in Jimmy Nail's hit program Super Gran and Spender, which ran for three series from 1991 to 1993.

Other credits to Terry's name include Teesside firefighter drama Steel River Blues and Badger with Jerome Flynn.

Terry was also well known in the North East and beyond for his many stars on the comedy circuit.

Following the news of Terry's death, radio presenter Paul “Goffy” Gough wrote on Facebook: “Sad news today about the passing of the lovely Terry Joyce.

“A lovely boy and a fabulous actor.

“Terry worked with the best and they loved working with him.

“A huge loss to the North East and beyond. Rest in peace Terry and thank you for the many laughs.”

Another tribute on Facebook read: “RIP, a true Hebburn boy, a good friend and who will be greatly missed, keep making those Terry Joyce jokes.”

Fellow comedian Sue Sweeney wrote: “Very sad to hear the news of the passing of one of the North East's great comedians and my friend Terry Joyce. He was such a charming man with the most incredible humor.

“Fly high Terry, you made us laugh so much.

Another posted: “Just learned of Terry Joyce’s passing.

“A really nice guy who also happened to be a mainstay of the Social Clubs comedy club scene.

“I always had a laugh and a story to share. Travel well Terry.”

Terry's cause of death is currently unknown.
