Pools and wading pools where you can swim and play in Pueblo, Colorado
While summer officially began Thursday with the summer solstice, the Pueblo children have been on summer vacation for a few weeks now, and temperatures have been hot and getting hotter.
During the hot summer ahead, one of the best ways to cool off is to stop by a local public pool.
There are several public pool options around Pueblo, from the popular City Park pool to an outdoor swimming beach at nearby Pueblo Lake State Park.
What you need to know about Pueblo swimming pools
The city pool schedule is synchronized with the Pueblo School District 60 calendar for consistency between our programs, said Tamara Moore, recreation supervisor with Pueblo Parks and Recreation.

City Park is the Steel City's most popular public pool, with more than 23,000 visitors registered for open swim sessions last year. All other pools are scheduled to close before the first day of school at D60, but the City Park pool is open a few other summer weekends, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
And on the last day of the season at City Park pool, four-legged friends are allowed to splash around at the annual Pups at the Pool event for $5 per dog.
Most lifeguards who work part-time for the city of Pueblo are high school or college students. Moore said the city has adequate and adequate lifeguard staffing, unlike other cities that have struggled with a shortage of lifeguards.
Moore said the city's aquatics coordinator and specialist also works directly with high school students, including coaching teams, who can help recruit qualified lifeguards when school is closed for the summer.

The City of Pueblo owns and operates four swimming pools around the city. Entry per session to most pools is free for children 2 and under, $4 for adults and $3 for children 3 to 17. Frequent swimmers can purchase a 60-visit pass for $25.
The swimming pool at city park, located at 221 S. Parkside Lane, is the city's most popular. Closed on Mondays during the summer, this swimming pool offers two sessions: from noon to 2:30 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
THE Mineral Palace Park Swimming Pool is the city's second busiest pool, located at 1602 N. Santa Fe Ave. The 50 meter swimming pool is the longest in the city. Session times are the same as those for the City Park swimming pool.
At Ray Aguilera Park Pool, 715 McCulley Ave, children can enjoy a wading pool and athletes have a 40-meter pool to swim laps. This swimming pool is also closed on Mondays, from noon to 5 p.m., not divided into two sessions.
THE Mitchell Park Pool at 1040 N. La Crosse Ave. is one of the smallest in Pueblo, but entry is cheaper than the other three pools: $1.50 for children ages 3 to 17 and $2 for adults. This swimming pool, which also has a paddling pool, is open every day from noon to 5 p.m. and closes one week before the other swimming pools, according to the city's website.

Kestrel Pond at Lake Pueblo State Parkformerly known as Rock Canyon Day Use Area and Swimming Beach, is a quiet area of the park where swimmers can enjoy the water without motorized vehicles making noise and being a nuisance.
Entrance to Kestrel Pond is included with national park admission. A daily park pass costs $10 per vehicle or $80 for an annual pass. A discounted annual state parks pass can be included in the vehicle registration fee for $29.
THE Pueblo West Pool is open every day, except Monday, until August 11 this year. Free swim takes place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and costs $4. Frequent visitors could save with a punch pass, which offers 10 visits for $35 or 24 for $84.
