Greenbrier Valley Theater prepares for its annual summer drama camps
Lewisburg, West Virginia. (WVDN) If the ever-rising temperatures are any indication, summer is officially here and Greenbrier Valley Theater is preparing to beat the heat with its annual summer camps. Children of all ages will join the GVT community this summer to learn about theater arts from a team of professionals. This year's camp theme is It's About Time.
Camp is a fun, interactive time where we encourage kids to put away their screens for a bit and learn valuable teamwork and communication skills, as well as let their imaginations run wild through game, said Director of Education Dorothy Jo Oberfoell.
Each week offers a unique camp for different age groups. Weeks one and two will be for students in grades two through ten. The third week is for students in kindergarten through third grade. Participants do not need to have prior theater experience to register.
During the first week, students will spend their time at camp creating a new play from scratch. Children will work in groups with a director to write the script, pitch the show, rehearse and create costumes, props and more.
The second week is musical theater week, where there is more emphasis on singing and dancing. This year, students will work on a full musical and perform it at the end of the week. This show was specially chosen to welcome campers of all levels in a safe and fun environment.
Students will be involved in the entire process of the show, from learning the music and making the costumes to helping with the set, Oberfoell said.
The three weeks will be filled with activities, crafts and lessons to engage students' minds and let their creativity flow. Whether your child is a professional performer or just thinking about getting started, Greenbrier Valley Theaters' summer theater camp is for them.

Camp tuition for the first week is $200 per week for students in grades two through five and $250 for students in grades six through ten. The second week costs $250 for all students and the third week costs $100 per week. Needs-based scholarships are available for every week.
