Notably, Rupert's comments came shortly after acting veteran Richard Chamberlain, who did not come out as gay until more than 40 years into his career, told the Lawyer: I wouldn't advise a leading gay actor to come out. It is complicated. There is still a lot of homophobia in our culture. It's unfortunate, it's stupid, it's heartless and it's immoral, but it's there.
