Who has the best fries in Naples? Readers crown the winner
More than 500 readers voted for their favorite fries in Naples and elsewhere in Collier County, and three clear leaders on the scoreboard received 61 percent of the total votes among 13 competitors.
In alphabetical order, the main reader nominations for determining the field included:

- Five Guys Multiple Locations
- Cafe Fogg at the Naples Botanical Garden, east of Naples
- Fords Garage Several locations
- Fuse Gastrobar in Naples
- Gigi Gourmet, a food truck at Celebration Park in East Naples

- Millers Ale House – multiple locations
- Oasis the kitchen salon in Ave Maria

- The French in Naples
The polling stations closed their doors on Friday June 21 at noon. The results, as voted for by you, are below.
Third place winner
When reviewing Bicyclette Cookshops' fast-food restaurants, Louis Mele, who started as a fryer at McDonald's in Windsor, Ont., before becoming president of the Canadian and Italian chains, the first thing he noticed was the new potato cut.

The potatoes were cut fresh when he ran the fry station in 1972.
When we visited in February, Mele noticed that the fries are now smaller, seem more uniform in size and ensure that most are crispy.
We also gleaned advice from a couple who ordered theirs without salt to ensure a fresh batch.
McDonalds missed second place by just 1.7%.

Finalist
In second place, BrickTops, an upscale chain with a local outpost at Waterside Shops, lost 7.8% to the winner.
Reader Carl Kepford loves them: thin and crispy, with no artificial flavors or additives.
This restaurant also made the final four in our Best Burgers in Naples challenge.
Of course, fries are great with burgers, but delicious alternatives abound if you go for it.
Kepford came up with two ideas for eating them with a companion, other than the accompanying ramekin of ketchup.
Both people order the French Dip sandwich with a side of broth and horseradish sauce. One person chooses the fries as a side dish. The other orders crispy Brussels sprouts instead of fries.
Another variation he came up with is to take advantage of the broth that comes with the sandwiches, but add a serving of horseradish dip.
Dip fries and beef in broth or horseradish dip or both. It's better than dipping fries in ketchup.
As one of my favorite places in town for fries, I countered Kepford by suggesting steak fries on BrickTop's dinner menu. I dip the fries in pepper sauce instead of ketchup.

As you head towards this fast food joint, you first notice the potatoes.

On my very first visit in February with Mele, the bonus fries in the bag almost made up for the annoying tip message.
