Hollywood retail workers vote on contract proposal – Whittier Daily News
A ratification vote was expected Wednesday, June 26, on a proposed labor contract for about 50,000 Hollywood film and television crew members.
A “yes” vote would prevent another work stoppage in the entertainment industry.
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers announced a tentative agreement Tuesday evening. The deal still needs to be approved by union members. The timetable for this vote has not yet been announced.
IATSE officials said full details of the proposed agreement would be communicated to union members in the coming days, and that a union webinar was planned for July 13 to review the agreement.
“Some of the changes proposed in the basic agreement in principle include rate increases of 7%, 4% and 3.5% over the three-year term,” according to IATSE. “Hourly workers will receive a triple rate when a workday exceeds 15 hours elapsed, all on-call classifications will now receive a double rate on the seventh day of the workweek, and additional wage increases will take effect on non-production dramas as part of the Video Tape Supplement. Agreement.
“The tentative agreement includes new protections around artificial intelligence, including language that ensures that no employee is required to provide AI prompts in a manner that would result in the displacement of an employee covered.”
Workers represented by IATSE include hair stylists, camera operators, makeup artists, costume designers and other tradespeople. The union's current contract with the studios was set to expire on July 31.
The impending end of the contract has Hollywood fearing another possible strike, following walkouts last year by the Screen Actors Guild and Writers Guild of America that halted production.
The Teamsters union, which represents nearly 4,000 workers — including drivers, mechanics and other tradespeople — is still in negotiations with the studios, and its contract also expires July 31.
