Prolific actor Bill Cobbs dies at 90
Bill Cobbs, the veteran actor who became a ubiquitous and wise-cracking presence on screen as an older man, has died. He was 90 years old.
Cobbs died Tuesday at his home in the Inland Empire, Calif., surrounded by family and friends, his publicist Chuck I. Jones said. Natural causes are the likely cause of death, Jones said.
Cobbs, born in Cleveland, Ohio, starred in films such as The Hudsucker Proxy,The bodyguardAnd Night at the museum.He made his first appearance on the big screen in a short-lived role in 1974. Won a Daytime Emmy in 2020
Cobbs rarely got the kind of major roles that stood out and won awards. Instead, he was a familiar, memorable man who left an impression on audiences no matter how much time he spent on screen. He won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Performance in a Daytime Program for the Series Dino Dana in 2020.

Wilbert Francisco Cobbs, born June 16, 1934, served eight years in the United States Air Force after graduating from high school in Cleveland. In the years following his service, Cobbs sold cars. One day, a client asked him if he wanted to act in a play. Cobbs first appeared on stage in 1969. He began performing at the Cleveland Theater and later moved to New York where he joined the Negro Ensemble Company, acting alongside Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee.
Cobbs later said that acting seemed to him a way to express the human condition, particularly during the civil rights movement of the late 1960s.
“To be an artist, you have to have a sense of giving,” Cobbs said in a 2004 interview. “Art is kind of a prayer, isn't it? We respond to what we see around about us, how we feel, and how things affect us mentally and spiritually.”
