Fantasia gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame, street named after her in High Point
HIGH POINT, N.C. It's been an eventful few weeks for a High Point native turned music superstar.
Fantasia Barrino-Taylor, better known by her stage name Fantasia, was born and raised in High Point. She even attended Andrews High School.
Fantasia first rose to fame in 2004 when she won the third season of “American Idol.”
Since then, Fantasia has performed on Broadway and won a Grammy in 2012 for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for her hit single Bittersweet.
Her 2006 hit single, When I See U, topped the Billboard charts for Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for eight weeks.
In 2023, Fantasia was nominated for a Golden Globe and won an NAACP Image Award for her portrayal of Celie Johnson in “The Color Purple.”
Today, Fantasia's entertainment achievements are recognized both locally and nationally.
On June 16, Fantasia was honored by the City of High Point and Guilford County. High Point revealed the new Fantasia Avenue and a key to the city. Guilford County also awarded him a Key to the County.

“Without this place, I wouldn’t be myself.” Fantasia wrote in an Instagram post reflecting on the honors. “High Point, NC made me!”
In addition to the honors, the Hollywood Walk of Fame announced that Fantasia would receive a star on the world-famous sidewalk on Tuesday.
