Sawdust Art Festival opens with 180 artists, art classes and entertainment – Orange County Register
Artistic entertainment returns for summer at Laguna Canyon's famous eucalyptus grove, home of the Sawdust Art Festival.
This year, 180 artists and makers will display their unique crafts, jewelry and artwork on the festival grounds covered in sawdust and shaded by towering trees.
The festival, now in its 58th edition, opens on Friday, June 28 and features 20 new artists.
“I am honored to be one of the many artists who have contributed to this multi-generational art festival, sharing our work with the community in the middle of this ancient eucalyptus forest,” said Andrew Soliz, president of the board of directors of the festival, in a press release. “On behalf of the artists and performers who came before us, and all of us present today, I extend a hand of friendship to all present.”
Beyond viewing the artist's offerings, there will be specialized themed days throughout the summer, such as Surf Day on July 23-24, Country Western Day on August 3 and a fashion show on August 4.
There are also three stages with live music planned – more than 125 local bands will bring their tunes to the summer crowds.
Dining options are abundant with the legendary Sawdust Saloon and four other outdoor restaurants open for the summer. This year marks the highly anticipated return of Chef Gonzalo Rebollar's Taco Loco, a Pacific Coast Highway staple for 37 years before closing its doors in 2023.
And if you feel like getting creative, there will be daily art classes, including tile art, watercolour painting, sewing, rock painting, sculpting clay creatures and much more.
