Night at the Museum and Agents of SHIELD Actor Bill Cobbs Dies at 90

Actor Bill Cobbs, who starred in dozens of roles during his career, has died at the age of 90.

By Weekly EntertainmentCobbs died of natural causes Tuesday. His death was confirmed by his publicist, Chuck I. Jones, who spoke about the Night at the museum star as “just a phenomenal human being.” Jones further described the late actor as a “very genuine, kind, caring person who was always looking to help others.”

Cobbs was born on June 16, 1934. After serving in the United States Air Force for eight years, Cobbs moved to New York City in hopes of launching an acting career in 1970. After getting his start in stage productions, the actor went on to make his first feature film in 1974. The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. Further work on the big and small screens would soon follow, making Cobbs a prolific actor who appeared in various films and television shows for the rest of his life.

In film, some of Cobb's most recognizable roles include the films The hitter, Brother from another planetAnd Oz the Great and PowerfulThere are many other films in which he can be recognized, having starred in films such as Stock exchanges, People under the stairs, The bodyguard, The demolisher, The Ghosts of Mississippi, Air bud, Paulie, I still know what you did last summer, The Muppets, Call me kingAnd Block Party. He memorably played Reginald in the 2006s. Night at the museumand he reprised the role for the 2009 sequel, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, although his scene was deleted. However, Cobbs was able to reprise the role one final time in the 2014 sequel, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.

Cobbs won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Performance in a Daytime Program for his work on the television show Dino Dana. He is also known for his major roles in I will fly away, The Michael Richards ShowAnd The Drew Carey Show. The actor appeared in many other notable shows over several decades, including roles on programs like Good time, The Equalizer, Los Angeles Law, Coach, Empty nest, Northern exposure, NYPD Blue, EAST, Walker, Texas Ranger, The outer limits, The Sopranos, Star Trek: Enterprise, CSI, Green leafAnd Superior Donuts. One of his last roles was for the Marvel series Agents of SHIELDwhich saw him play an elderly SHIELD agent in 2020.
