Bay College Announces Summer Concert Series | News, Sports, Jobs
ESCANABA — Strings on the Bay, Bay College’s summer chamber music series, returns this summer with a lineup of fantastic concerts. All concerts will take place at the Besse Theatre on the Bay College campus in Escanaba, beginning at 7 p.m. on select Tuesdays each month.
Tuesday July 9 at 7 p.m. – Cliff Monear & Jeff Pedraz Jazz Duo – On request
Cliff Monear, pianist on the jazz faculty at Wayne State, “gets trendy” as he fills the Besse Theatre with wonderful jazz alongside his bassist Jeff Pedraz. Together, these musicians take familiar themes from jazz, Latin and classical and make them as unique as the day they are played, always delivering a wonderfully complex and improvised musical experience.
Tuesday August 13 at 7 p.m. – Land, Sea and Air
“True Northern Quartet” Founded by Paul Lundin, the group has been bringing unique programs to Strings on the Bay since 2010 and is a crowd favorite. This year, the program is titled: “Land, sea and air”. by Mozart “Hunting” the quartet is associated with the New Zealand composer Alfred Hill “A Maori legend” which tells the story of a magical canoe that the indigenous people of New Zealand used to find their homeland. A transcription of Debussy's timeless classic, “Moonlight,” takes us into the night sky.
Tickets are available online, in person at the Besse Center box office or at the door before each concert. Admission is $15, or $7 for any K-Bay student.
