Cedars-Sinai Employees Proudly Travel to West Hollywood for Pride Month

A group of Cedars-Sinai employees participated in a Stride with Pride March on Thursday, June 27, 2024, to celebrate Pride Month in West Hollywood. About 21 medical workers from the medical center's gender reassignment unit marched from 8700 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, to West Hollywood's LGBT Rainbow District on Santa Monica Boulevard. Supervisors, nurses and administrators who care for transgender people in their departments came out to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community.

They all wore matching white Stride t-shirts with rainbow Pride tees and held their own Pride parade down Santa Monica Boulevard to raise awareness of their services at Cedars. They walked to the Fiesta Cantina, then browsed the bars in the LGBT Rainbow district.

Cedars-Sinai offers comprehensive primary health care for transgender people, gender reaffirmation hormonal management, HIV care, and gender reaffirmation surgery (facial, breast, genital). It is one of only four academic medical centers in the Western United States to offer male-to-female and female-to-male genital gender reaffirmation surgery, and we offer several others types of surgeries to meet the needs of our patients. Their specialists offer vocal cord therapy and speech therapy, fertility preservation and mental health and psychiatry, and other support services. Our LGBTQ+ center opened earlier this year and has specialists in primary care, pediatrics, transgender surgery, reconstructive surgery and cancer screening in an inclusive space. They firmly believe that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, especially in their doctor's office.

Cedars-Sinai Receives Highest Honor from Human Rights Campaign Foundations Health Care Equality Index this month, making it one of 384 U.S. healthcare facilities to receive the designation.

The index, called HEI for short, evaluates institutions' policies and practices regarding equitable treatment and inclusion of LGBTQ+ patients, visitors and employees.

This biennial recognition is based on detailed criteria grouped under five categories: non-discrimination and staff training; patient services and support; employee benefits and policies; patient and community engagement; and responsible citizenship.

A record 1,065 healthcare organizations actively participated in the HEI 2024 survey and rating process. Of those, 384, including Cedars-Sinaire, earned the top score of 100, earning them the designation of LGBTQ+ Leader in Healthcare Equality.

Examples of Cedars-Sinai's efforts to better serve the LGBTQIA+ community include the Transgender Surgery and Health Program, LGBTQ+ Center, annual unconscious bias trainings for all Cedars employees- Sinai, as well as support and participation in community events.

Throughout the month of June, Cedars-Sinai employees, family members and friends showed their care for the LGBTQIA+ community by participating in Pride events at Hollywood WestLos Angeles and the San Fernando Valley.
